Male procedures: Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia (GM) is a condition where there is an increase in breast volume in men, caused by glandular proliferation and fat deposition. It is quite frequent and can occur in adolescents, adults, and the elderly.
Most cases occur at puberty, in 1 or 2 breasts, and the tendency is that the condition is reversed until early adulthood, at which point it can be considered physiological. Gynecomastia may also be related to hormonal dysfunctions, neoplasms, and the use of certain medications.
Who is it recommended for?
It is recommended for men with excess breast tissue and fat. It is important to consider the four grades of gynecomastia, depending on the tissue volume:
Grade I: diameter enlargement of the areola and protrusion limited to the areolar region.
Grade II: moderate enlargement of the breast region and the areola located below the fold.
Grade III: moderate enlargement, with ptosis of the gland delimiting the inframammary fold and the areola located up to 1 cm below the fold.
Grade IV: marked enlargement, with skin excess, severe ptosis and areola positioned more than 1 cm below the fold.
How is the procedure performed?
In most cases, liposuction is associated with surgical resection of the mammary gland. The scarring is limited to around the areola and may be more extensive in more severe cases. The definition of the technique depends on the evaluation of each patient.
The goal is to restore the normal contour of the chest, remove the inframammary fold, correct the position of the areola, remove excess skin, and promote symmetry, thereby reducing extensive scarring.
